Activity and Kids-How They Fit Togther

Overweight and Obese people are unfortunately becoming more and more common right across the world, and is becoming more and more common in children, sadly. I think there are probably 2 main reasons for this:
  1. The Technology Era
  2. Parents Worrying About Letting Kids Out To Play
Technology is taking over. Most people will have mobile phones, game consoles, computers, Facebook accounts etc. While I do love using things like Facebook and my phone, I also find it sad that it means people won't go outside, enjoy the fresh air and actually talk face to face with people.

With more and more people inside their own houses, parents are less likely to let their kids play out the front of their houses, walk round to friends places or go across to the playground by themselves and people don't always have time to take their kids outside. I kind of think that this is partly caused by the over publicised abductions of young children. In no way am I condoning those kind of things but I do think that they scare parents and because everyone has their kids inside, there is no one they trust that they know will be keeping an eye out for them.

All of this adds up and (along with many other personal factors, I'm sure) it means that obesity rates are steadily increasing by the year.

I think the solution is to make it "cool" for young kids to play sport. When I was around 8 or 9, playing netball was the cool thing and so I started playing. I still haven't stopped. By making it the cool thing to do, it will get more kids involved and fit.

Being fit and active is a lot of fun and is scientifically proven to increase your levels of happiness. By passing this on to kids, it will bring a happier place to live in the future.
